Post-Readercon

Back from Readercon, where a very good time was had. akaspeedo has a report up already. I'm watching merlinpole's and (check) stevendj's (check) space.

We cracked today and hauled the fans and air-conditioner up from the basement. Actually, my SO cracked, so he did the hauling of the AC. I would have just kept sitting in my own thermal deliquescence. I've gotta hand it to Hotpoint; that little room unit dates back to my bedroom in my parents' house, and it's still working after many, many moves. My best estimate of its DOB is 1982, maybe 1983.

Meanwhile, the electronic vortex of doom continues to plague this house. This week's casualty: my NEC monitor. The problem seems not to be the power cord but the connection between the power cord and the monitor, which is no longer jiggable with random objects. (Nonrandom objects don't work either.) This issue comes up with monitors a lot, doesn't it? Is it something easily fixed, worth fixing? Something that would be a crime to abandon an otherwise perfectly good monitor because of? (I have a spare in its place now.)

Some day I swear I'm going to get to Readercon (though why I would want to go, I don't know because I'd just stand in the doorway and wish I knew people--even when I know people I do that, but no one can tell 'cuz I just look all self-contained and aloof, but really I only sort of am).

But anyway, I got central air this year because, you know, I was going to sell this house and buy my dream house which totally didn't happen and I am instead sending my dogs to vet school. But I got central air out of the deal, which, it turns out is really kind of nice....

I would be over the moon to see you at one. And you could look as aloof and self-contained as you liked, I'd still say hi. :)

Central air does seem wonderful, from what I hear. It might not make sense to have it installed in this old house, if it's even possible, and before anything else I want a solar roof (in the list of Big Improvements), but I'll probably price it one of these days, just to see.

Dogs are an excellent priority.

Your turn, Irongall, I did a lameola Readercon report. Oh, bah, I forgot to mention the Weather, welcome to New England. Friday night was The Drenching. Saturday merely had wetness. Sunday was sunny and hot.

Hmpf, I will try. I posted a brief summary over at the message board on my Website; maybe I'll cadge from that.

There was a brief drenching Saturday too, during the dinner break. It was really quite wonderful and made the nice dry restaurant seem cozy.
