tmcg: (creepy book)

Three weeks ago, I switched to cable phone, because how could I resist $15/mo for more services than I had for $45/mo with Verizon? Right after I switched, I got a lot of incoming wrong numbers (useful for practicing my Spanish), and there were service outages of one to three minutes at least once a day. Then the wrong numbers tailed off, but the outages got longer and now calls are occasionally half dropped (I can hear the other party but they can't hear me anymore).

This morning, there was an incoming call from my own phone number.

I thought that was pretty nifty. I even picked up. "Hi!" I said. "Am I there?" I was disappointed to find that I wasn't. Or maybe I was, but I couldn't hear myself?

I'm hanging in with the service, hoping the cable company gets its act together. If it doesn't, I hope that the next time I call myself we can actually have a conversation. Especially if the call's from the past or future or an alternative dimension. An interdimensional phone line! For fifteen bucks a month! That would be worth the unreliable regular service.

For what it's worth, we recently switched to Vonage and so far it's been trouble-free.

Maybe the call was from your very own pointy-eared boss. *cue ominous music*

Nifty idea. I think I should call myself soon. I definitely need a talking to.

A call from yourself? maybe it was from yourself in a parallel world! Sounds like the beginning of a story...

Hey! ^_^

I usually call myself to tell me I'm not listening.

I can't remember who wrote the story, but there was one about an up-and-coming writer getting emails from one of his favorite authors post-mortem. I think it was in F&SF.

How.... interesting. And how unfortunate that you couldn't hear yourself when you called in to yourself. XP

"Or check out our service bundle! You could save hundreds of dollars a year if you get Teleportation, Self-call, and Personal Duplication Services together. You never have to have dinner alone again! Call today and make a date with yourself!"

That is so rude. You should have told yourself you had the wrong number, instead of just hanging up like that. You owe yourself an apology.

If they can get it working so that you can hear yourself, it'll be an awesome value-added service. Anytime you want to have a stern word with yourself, just pick up the phone!

It was delightfully Twilight Zone-ish. :)

Ooh, I missed that one; I'll try to track it down. I've been terrible about reading the magazines lately, but we do get F&SF here (at least one person in the household reads it cover-to-cover, while I watch guilt-ridden as the issues pile up), so if it was in there it'll come easily to hand.

I really don't listen to myself enough, and if I called to tell myself that, it would not surprise me in the least. *g*

And look! It's you! Yay!! I'm running off to friend you now. :)

I'd really like to know what I would have said. Or was saying. How annoying!

Oh, that userpic is cute. :)

LOL!

Clearly I'm not getting the most out of this service. By golly, I think it's time to call customer support.

(Can you imagine that call? An irate customer ranting because the temporal-paradox and self-to-self and teleportation options aren't working? That might beat "Where's the Any key?")

I'll make the call right now. *g*

So, what you're saying is the connection was bad TOO.

*tsk*tsk*

Thanks re the pic. When I first got a stack of pics-possible with the paid account, I went trolling through Flickr (should I admit that in public?) and pulled out all kinds of things that tickled my fancy. A few of them got made into icons.

It was ages before [livejournal.com profile] scarlettina posted something that told me there are whole *communities* of people making icons for use. *head*desk* but I shoulda know'd too.

Especially because... well, consider how many identical calls the poor customer service person would be receiving from the same caller! To say nothing of the dog, er, continuously looped and repetitive calls.

I did something similar when I got an infusion of Loyalty userpics a couple of months ago. I seem unable to come anywhere near filling my limit, but it's interesting trawling for images that could make fun icons. A whole different way of looking at snapshots, for me at least.

One of the plans listed on their Website would suit perfectly, and if Cablevision keeps acting up I may very well switch over. Thanks!
