Illumination has come out in German. Yay! I got copies today, and family members who can actually read German snarfed them up, so I had only a moment to savor. But I'm psyched.

The weird thing is: On German Amazon, I've acquired a middle initial W. On U.S. Amazon until they fixed it, and still on BarnesandNoble.com, for Illumination I've been listed with a middle initial M. Neither W nor M is my middle initial, and I've never used my middle initial in my byline (although I think some magazine printed it once, for some reason I never got to the bottom of).

I can kind of see the M; it's the sort of typo you'd make when you start typing the last name, get distracted, then come back and type the last name in from scratch, leaving the first letter of the aborted attempt as a vestigial middle initial. But the W is a mystery to me.

It's the constellation Cassiopeia of middle initials.

I've been twmed.

What kind of mood is Mike Resnick?

Umm... maybe that comment needs explanation. On my friends' list, it says your current mood is Mike Resnick, hence the bemused comment. But now that I'm seeing your actual page and not my friends' view, I see it says you're reading Mike Resnick.

Actually, I kinda like Mike as a mood. I could see a Neil Gaiman mood, or an Ursula K. LeGuin mood, or a Harlan Ellison mood (watch out!), or... :-)

That's pretty much what I had in mind when I changed the text for "mood." I figured it would come up as "mood" (or whatever people have theirs set to) on Friends pages, and I decided that actually worked, for just the reason you say. It's often enough that I choose which book to read next based on mood. "Hmm, I'm just not in the mood for an Ellis Peters right now. I feel more like a Lawrence Block." :)

Plus, I always used the "music" feature occasionally, and the "location" feature makes me laugh, so "mood" was what was left to designate for current reading, and I've never used moods on my posts.

On my journal I have changed the text for mood to "current malfunction". So my my Flist it reads:

Current malfunction: Mike Resnick

Take that how you like it. :)

Ooooohhhh! Will you let me know if any of your books come out in Norwegian? I keep meaning to look at the Norwegian Amazon, but I'm not that good at translating yet. ^_^

Heh, yes, I will! That would be very, very cool. The closest I've ever come to a Norwegian translation was having a short story translated into Finnish.

It's a trade paperback. It's gorgeous, too.

I'm psyched about C and German. :)
