Winter Stormwrack
Feb. 23rd, 2003 04:53 pmWe went for a long walk in dense fog on the beach this morning. There was still a lot of stuff washed up by last week's storm (and not cleared away by the town yet because, as far as I know, they don't groom the beach out of season). Among all the broken chunks of dock, pieces of flotation stuff, writhing alive-looking lengths of the huge nautical rope they use to secure huge nautical things like tankers, and plant matter that resembled protean forms of alien life as rendered by HR Giger, the things we ran across most frequently were:
1) Balls (tennis balls, rubber balls, a big beautiful intact but waterlogged softball)
2) Dead birds (a lot of gulls, two cormorants, several pigeons, and two different kinds of duck)
3) Coconuts. (Not shells. Full coconuts.)
Hmm.
