Has anyone yet come out with a diet cola soft drink made with sucralose rather than aspartame?

At a very nice con in Little Rock, Arkansas, a couple of years ago, I found something called Diet Big Red in the consuite bathtub. Being very much a Northerner (though I was made an honorary Bubba at a Birmingham DeepSouthCon), I had never heard of this beverage. I saw sucralose in the list of ingredients. Oh yay! I thought. Splenda soda! A strange silence fell over the group I was chatting with as I popped the can and took a sip. It was like a college initiation, or a practical joke. This drink tasted like stale beer and Robitussin. There being no spittoons, I quickly returned the liquid to the plumbing portion of the bathroom from whence it came.

I'm hoping some beverage company somewhere will do better than this. Anyone run across anything?

Regular Big Red kinda tastes like that too.

I'm one of the weird few who drinks diet sodas not necessarily for the diet property but for some reason liquid things with sugar in them taste odd to me. They go sour on my tongue.

That's because you've been drinking Chinese sweet-and-sour soda.

Diet Rite is Splenda'ed

From cola to white grape to red raspberry to who knows what they've got this month. Diet Rite went sucralose (and Ace-K in a blend, apparently) a while ago, probably after diet RC Cola proved to be successful for the company. None are major players in the soft drink market, but they fill a niche nobody else has seen fit to battle for yet.

Pepsi Edge has Splenda in it but it has a funny taste too. I took one sip and decided that I would just have to wait until someone comes up with a Sucralose soda that actually tastes good. Oh Well, just wanted to let you know in case you were still looking...

I saw an ad for Pepsi Edge, and it sounded kind of gross. Thanks for the confirmation. IIRC, it also isn't no-cal. I drink way more soda pop than I should, so no-cal is key.

I agree

Being an overweight man with a mild sweet tooth who's been on Atkins off and on over the past two years, I can attest to Diet Rite. At first I was wary, but was happily surprised at the taste. I'd rate regular Diet Rite's sweetness between Coke and Pepsi. Of the other flavors, I've only been able to try kiwi strawberry, red raspberry, orange and white grape. I'm a little iffy over white grape, but the others are pretty dernd good. Hopefully someone out there can comment on the other flavors Diet Rite offers, as it seems they don't carry them in my neck of Michigan.

This is so great! Thank you! I'm especially interested in the range of flavors. Right now the only diet sodas I can really stand are the cherry-flavored ones. It would be nice to have some variety.

Much appreciated.

Being married to someone who is allergic to Aspartame we have been searching for Splenda pop, here is what we've found:

Diet Coke has a Splenda version - but it can be hard to find.
Pepsi One is another Splenda pop.
Diet 7Up was Splenda for a few months, but they have switched back, except for their Diet 7Up Plus line.
Diet Rite of course.

Keep on buying Splenda pop so that the industry will make more!

Arg, I'm sorry to hear that Diet 7Up switched back. I didn't drink it much, but I'm rooting hard for sucralose to win out over aspartame in general and hate to see any ground lost.

Thanks so much for the list! I didn't know about Pepsi One, and I'm going to search for the Diet Cokes that have Splenda.

I'll definitely keep supporting the industry.

Thanks again!
